Diary kept in 1865 at Fort Davis  (typescript)

.

Fort Davis, Stephens County, Texas, on the Clear Fork of Brazos River.   A week after the October 13, 1864 Battle of Elm Creek, 120 people began forting up at Fort Davis for protection from the marauding Indians.   Twenty families were still there in November 1865.   On January 1, 1865, resident Samuel Pearson Newcomb began this diary, Journal, 1865-1873.  Your author indexed the January 1, 1865 to December 31, 1865 portion of the diary typescript and included it on two pages of my 1,046-page book as well as my 146-page Name Index.

The January 1865 part of the diary typescript (original handwritten diary and original typescript owned by Watt Matthews in 1964)  is shown on the right in the 7-page typescript of the 300-page typescript transcribed by Bill Wright and Clifton Caldwell of Abilene, Texas in 1864.    Copies of the 300-page diary typescript on CD are available.

Your author indexed the January 1, 1865 to December 31, 1865 portion of the diary on these two pages below taken from my book.   The typed index may be easier to read
