Timeline

1850 Fulton Co AR cen shows John Whitman 40 PA, and Sarah C Richardson, enum w/ Sarah Blair

1860 Palo Pinto Co TX cen shows John Whitemore 45 PA enum w/ Wm N Blair

1860 Palo Pinto Co TX shows T.S. Whitmore 27 TN enum w/ Jackson Smith.

Sarah Blair paid taxes in Lawrence Co, AR in 1837; Wm Blair in 1837 & 1838 in Lawrence Co, AR. Next, Wm and Sarah are in 1840 Lawrence Co AR Cen. Sarah's found paying taxes in 1849 on Fulton Co, AR land where she remained until 1856 when she moved her family to Palo Pinto Co, TX. Sarah's name appears several times on Palo Pinto Co, TX deeds. The last we know of Sarah is her signing a Palo Pinto Co deed in 1869.

S U P P O S I T I O N     O N L Y:

Writer thinks Sarah's husband was William Blair, who was prob in the U.S. Army with residence in Missouri. Her ? Gray relatives had come to northeast Arkansas in the early 1820's and claimed several tracts of land. She prob had her own inherited property since she paid 1837 Lawrence Co AR taxes or maybe he was away in the army; Wm also paid taxes in 1837 and 1838 in Lawrence Co.

The 1840 Cen of Lawrence Co, Lebannon twp, AR shows that the William Blair family "fits": 1221001---0010001-0. Father of these children is missing in the 1850 Fulton Co AR cen.

My Grounds, Blair lineage is here. I researched my grandmother Mary Conner, who was married to John Wesley Grounds, who father was George W. Grounds, born 1840 and Wilmuth Jane Blair, who was daughter to George H. Blair, 1st born to William and Sarah Gray. The 2nd born only list female born 1825-1830, who I believe was named Wilmoth, George and Francis sister, who on the 1850 Fulton Co., Arkansas census, is in Dwelling 11:

Grounds, John C. born 1821
Grounds, Wilmoth B. 1828
Grounds, Sarah Rebecca born 1849
McDaniel, Susan, age 13, born 1837 in MO
McDaniel, David, age
Dwelling 11

I want to buy your book. It has a lot of history of my Grounds/Blair/Conner/McDonald families. I did want to tell you that on the

1850 Fulton County, Arkansas census, Dwelling 11:

Grounds, John, age 29, born 1821 MO
Grounds, Wilmoth, age 22, born 1828 MO****
Grounds, Sarah Rebecca, age 1, b-1849 Arkansas

and shows in Dwelling 12:
Blair, George H., age 29, born 1821 MO
Blair, Elizabeth, age 23, born 1827 AR
Blair, Sarah Rebecca, age 3, born 1847 AR
Blair, Wilmoth Jane, age 2, born 1848 AR
Blair, Matilda Ann, Age 7 mos., born 1850 AR

I believe Wilmoth (b-1828) married to John Grounds, is your Francis H. Blair's and my George H. Blair's sister. I think she was the 1st female born to William and Sarah. I also feel like my Wilmoth Jane Blair (b-1848) who married George W. Grounds, was probably named for her.

Also from Dwelling 2 to Dwelling 12 are either Grounds, Blairs or Underwoods. Dwelling 10 shows:
Blair, Sarah, age 53, born 1797, KY
Blair, Francis H., age 17, born 1833 MO - your lineage
Blair, James, age 15, born 1835 MO
Blair, Thomas, age 12, born 1838 AR
John Whitman, age 40, born 1810 PA
Sarah C. Richardson, age 18, born 1932 MO

I believe this is Sarah Gray and children at still, with George and sister Wilmoth living next door with their families.

I ask you if you might know how Sarah Underwood fits into these families. My GGGrandfather Peter Grounds is living in Dwelling 7 with 13 people listed in the home. ggrandfather, George W. (C) is 10 years old here, and it list Elizabeth Wells, age 13, Sevier McDaniel (later used name McDonald), age 6, and David Underwood, age 14.  .I know the Grounds' (head) are brothers, but I can not figure out who the Underwood group is related to.  Maybe the Grounds' just took David in because it shows her with no husband and 5 children still at home ages 18, 16, 12, 9. and 2. She had to be overwhelmed being 40 with a 2-yr-old and 4 other children to care for.   I believe this Sevier McDaniel is son to Elizabeth Grounds, born 1820, who married William McDaniel (McDonnell/ McDonald). I suspect she may have died before 1850 and her brother Peter, took him in.

Is all I have to do is send you a check for the books, if so, who do I make it out to and total amount you require.

Thank you so much by emailing me you website and solving some mysteries.

Francis Harvey Blair (1832-1883)

F. H. Blair had fifteen CSA  regimental return cards labeled "2nd Mounted Rifles" from March 1862 until May 1865 in Roark's Company H, Pyron's 2d Cavalry.   Detailed as a saddler and a gunsmith.
